Douglas Clark

Metamorphosis

At the conference table,
unable to compete,
articulate an argument,
rebuttal or debate,
I head for the nearest exit.

Out in the garden,
I open my mouth,
Launch a gelatinous tongue,
and gracefully suck a mayfly
out of midair.

Douglas Clark is a retired nurse living in Spain. For much of his professional life he worked as a project manager of health, nutrition, and water and sanitation projects in Guatemala; Belize, Ecuador; and Haiti. He has a BA in English from Tufts University and a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University.
