THE INNISFREE POETRY JOURNAL

Colin Flanigan

REPORT FROM THE SUPERHERO HANGOUT

Its been a cryptic night of kryptonite
with burning eyes and black point pens
a night with Supermen and Wonderwomen
and the occasional arch nemesis

By midnight we’ll have tragicomic trials
with lipstick blood and blue-haired heroes
balanced on romantic tightropes
stretched above the absurd abyss

Myths, philosophies, religions
will be rent apart . . . rewoven
words will become hazardous waste
the dictionary drink poison

In the end a story will rise from the rubbish of words
slowly shake off its punctuation,
shamble off into the night
ravaging reality and the surrounding regions.

Colin Flanigan's work has been published in Phoebe, Frantic Egg, and Connections.  He has served as a reader for the Washington Prize for poetry.  He works as a firefighter/paramedic.
